Rain has been elusive to this city. As we hear the news of precipitation from most parts of the country, we wonder when will we see the big raindrops falling from the skies so that we don’t have to face the grueling hot weather along with the humidity. Living alongside greenery has its perks, but when you see people cutting down trees, taking away from us the shelter that we need so that we can be saved from the bright sun, we feel that we all are suffering from some bane from our past lives. It is true that my classes (and now exams) are happening in air-conditioned classes, and it is true as well that I can survive a hot summer day by staying inside a fan-cooled room like a hermit, doing bare minimum work to spend energy, but still, it is hot, and summer, and we all feel the brunt of hot weather.
Yes, rain is elusive to this city. The drizzle- no, it cannot be called as drizzle- the fall of very small raindrops has us and earth wanting for more, and we are thirsty for the rain that would quench our thirst. Or more likely, quench earth’s thirst.
Oh the elusive rain! When will you come? Your partners, and pre-conceivers, the clouds, they always come and give us hope. The partly black skies, the grey clouds and the unbearable and the clammed-up humid weather that premonition rain: all those are visible and evident. But the only thing that is missing is rain. The heavy-falling raindrops that cool the temperature, remove the perspiration and bring along the pleasant wind that silence our struggles with summer.
We look out for rains, the rains that are not visible in the horizon. And hopefully by next month, heaven listens to us.
